Himalayan Leather Handicraft is one of NLT's Income Generation Projects.
This leather crafts industry founded in 1978 for the economic rehabilitation and employment of people affected by leprosy, disabled and who are disadvantaged in some other way. This industry provided employment to 21 producers. They produce various designs of high quality leather goods in NLT's sheltered workshop in Kathmandu.
People affected by leprosy, disabled and marginalized persons find through this project not only a source of income, but a way to recover dignity and a place in their community, after being stigmatized and rejected. Thus demonstrating their skills, workers of these sheltered workshops move towards a greater economic, social and psychological inclusion.
The industry produces different varieties of bags, wallets, key ring, photoframe etc. Buying these products you not only support fair trade but also contribute to fight against the exclusion of most disadvantaged persons.
